Vashti Speer Diary

For Christmas in 1906, Vashti Speer received a diary titled, “Lest We Forget.” During 1907, the year Oklahoma would become a state, Vashti faithfully recorded her daily life. Vashti’s diary gives us a window into life one hundred years ago. The diary also provides a remarkable glimpse of Vashti’s love for her family and the land they farmed, her hard work, her sense of humor, and her joy of life.

The artifacts and photographic images in this exhibit are provided by the Speer family. The research for the exhibit was provided by Wayne Speer, Mary Ellen Dunivan Coldiron, Clyde Speer, and Dale Dunivan.
